Underground Home

In underground home designs, this unusual house plan is the collaboration between the Netherlands architects at SeARCH and Christian Muller Architects. This underground home, located in the Swiss village of Vals, is set amidst a cluster of mountain houses and if you don’t look carefully you might miss it! The most striking thing about this stone house is the majestic Alpine view through a wide, elliptical opening in the hillside, revealing spacious outdoor entertaining areas that lead to the home’s main entrance. Another entrance from a nearby barn leads residents and guests through an underground pathway, providing an alternate entryway into the home. The circular opening in the mountainside allows for lots of windows, which flood interiors with natural light while framing the stunning mountain views. TIM WALKER-TIM BURTON

Speaking of Tim Burton, I can't believe I missed this Harper's issue! Anyway, this issue came out in October, to hype up Tim Burton's show at the Moma which is now showing, and sold out in the later afternoon, so get there early! This piece was shot by Tim Walker, and I am guessing in collaboration with Tim Burton. I wish I could have been on that shoot! (Currently looking for the name of the Art Director. .)

THORBJØRN ANKERSTJERNE

Thorbjorn is a designer working from Copenhagen, and works as a freelancer in London. This is select from his site; Issue 21 of the DVD magazine, Speculation.

CODE magazine

I discovered Code when my friend Laura collaborated on a feature with them about the "hip young people" working at Apple. "CODE is a platform for documentary fashion photography. Fashion photography with real people wearing authentic styles." The art direction throughout the zine is fantastic! Unfortunately I only have one copy, as it is only distributed in the Netherlands, Belgium, Tokyo and Paris.
